Codemotion 2012

written by Carlo Frinolli

It has been crazy busy times. Preparing an event like Codemotion is not like any other event we curated.

We knew that Codemotion was big. Last year's edition was 2040 people attending. We expected a little more, indeed. We hoped so, at least. Last year's agency (our friends at Macaroni bros) did an incredible job in curating all the visual communication and being chosen by such an event was pretty honouring for us. It all started in October 2011.

What if...

Since the beginning of our history, we are committed to openness. And transparency.

Well this is something that was here even before social media broke in the web-scene. Now being open or public has its downside. Respecting people privacy is an issue as much as getting information public.

Arduino

Something that really impressed us in our Drumbeat experience in Barcelona is how to hack real life, in an open web way.

What's better than using open tools, piece of hardware to get it done, having fun like with the good old Lego?
Here comes Arduino for this purpose.

Make stuff, meet people. Keep the web open.

When we first thought of a Mozilla event last year as nois3lab, we had a different idea of events.

In our previous experiences events are those things where you either listen to experts talking or attend to a show or a performance.
In both cases you're a spectator there
In terms of events this is the closest metaphore of a closed web could be.
As a user you're supposed to listen, consume, and follow.

We work in the open. Completely and literally.

It's been a bit of time now, since the first time I posted about Drumbeat.

And how thrilled we are to work with them.
Today it's time to share and reveal what is our work proposal into this project: as we're enthusiastic fans of social media, and social media strategies, we decided to develop one for Drumbeat itself.
So, in today's weekly community call, we're going to present this strategy to all the rest of the crew.
